The third annual MSYSA Telcom Credit Union Cup kicked off at 8:00am on Saturday, October 6th. Boys and girls recreational teams in the U9-U13 age groups flocked to Founder’s Sports Park in Farmington Hills, where they enjoyed two days of soccer games in a fun and festival-like atmosphere. No scores or standings were kept, and every player went home with a participation medal, goody bag from Telcom Credit Union, and a prize from the MSYSA Prize Wheel. Between games, players were seen testing their skills at the MSYSA Skills & Drills Competition, bouncing around on the inflatable moonwalks, having team picnics, or the most popular activity….having water fights with their new Telcom Credit Union water bottles.
Each team played three or sometimes four games over the two day weekend. Because no scores or standings were kept, coaches experimented with different formations and tactics, and players had the freedom to try new positions and new moves. Additionally, without the pressure of winning, sportsmanship was at an all-time high. Coaches, parents, and kids alike applauded each other when a goal was scored or a good play was made. Teams bonded over their love for soccer, and new friends were made.
Although technically labeled a “tournament”, the MSYSA Telcom Credit Union Cup has evolved into so much more. Thanks to Faygo for providing free beverages to participants on Saturday, and special thanks to Telcom Credit Union for continuing to support Michigan’s youth soccer community and making this tournament possible. Also, thank you to all the players, coaches, and parents who participated in this year’s event. We hope to see you all back next year for a fourth successful tournament!
