Girls State Cup Championships…
Back in August, 148 girls teams in the U13-U18 age groups began pool play for the 2008 MSYSA Girls State Cup. The first few weeks were characterized by torrential downpour, high winds, and downright unpleasant weather. However, after a month of hard fought, and often muddy preliminary games, an elite group of 48 teams advanced to the Quarterfinals in Saginaw on September 29th. Making up for the earlier bad weather, Mother Nature provided ar picturesque autumn weekend – 70 degrees and sunny. After two days of strong competition, amazing, goals, and spectacular saves, only 12 teams remained to battle for the Championships. On October 13th, spectators in attendance were treated to the same high-quality soccer that has earned Michigan a strong reputation among the Midwestern states. See below for a list of champions, finalists, and game scores from the Finals. Champions from each group will represent MSYSA at the US Youth Soccer Midwest Region II Championships, to be held June 20-25, 2008 in Rockford, IL. Best of luck to all advancing teams!
