The Oakwood Sports Medicine team is led by Medical Director, Marc J. Milia, MD.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina. He then completed a one-year Sports Medicine Fellowship in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder at the University of Pittsburgh working with the National Football League’s Pittsburgh Steelers.
He currently serves as the head team physician for Wayne State University and has held appointments as the team physician for numerous local professional sports teams. Dr. Karageanes is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Clinical Assistant Professor Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and a sports medicine consultant for USA Gymnastics, and USA Swimming & Diving. Dr. Karageanes has completed extensive research and shares his knowledge through medical publications and media presentations. Administrative Director and Certified Athletic Trainer, Performance Enhancement Specialist, Jeffrey A. Kline, directs the day-today operation of the services within our program. Since graduating from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine and exercise science, he has developed expert skills in the art and science of sports performance. His experience includes working with several national, international and collegiate sport organizations, including the United States Olympic Committee Medical Staff, international baseball and softball competitions, and World University Games and Paralympic Games. | |

Head concussion injuries are a serious concern in our young athletes. One main area of focus through the SHIELD Program is to provide useful information on what a concussion is, how to identify a concussion, what to do if you have one, and what you need to do in order to recuperate properly.
